The Cross County Cougars had their way with the Huskie girls’ and boys’ basketball teams on Saturday. The girls were completely overpowered by the Lady Cougars, losing 19-64. The Cougars kept up a full-court press on the Huskies, creating turnovers for them. While the Cougars couldn’t seem to miss, the Huskies went ice-cold shooting in the second quarter, scoring only two free throws by Mia Hiebner.

Leading the Huskies in scoring was Isabel Johnson with 5 points. The score last year against the ranked Cougars was 16-51. The Huskies record after this loss is 5-5, and the Lady Cougars are 12-1 with their win.

The boys had a strong start and were only behind by one point after the first quarter, but after scoring only four points in the second quarter, they couldn’t make a strong enough comeback. In the third quarter, the Huskies got hot with a few three-pointers by Alvarez and Quiring, and they got within 8 points, but the Cougars answered back quickly. They lost to the Cougars 39-58.

Leading scorers for the Huskies with 10 each were Luis Alvarez and Thane Wetjen. With this loss, the Huskies record for the season is 2-8, and the Cougars improve to 9-2. Last year, the Huskies lost to the Cougars by a score of 30-63.
