Heartland Girls & Boys Lose at Home to Fillmore Central

The Heartland Huskie girls had a tough time competing against the Fillmore Central Panthers, losing 28-63. They struggled in the first quarter to find the basket but scored three straight times and were behind 8-15 at the end of the first quarter. The Panthers overpowered the Huskies for most of the game, and in the fourth quarter, they could only score three points.

The only Huskie to score in double figures was Emersyn Oswald with 10 points, and Fillmore Central’s Staccines had a game-high 22 points against the Huskies. The Huskies drop their record to 5-7, and the Panthers are 4-8.

The boys battled hard against the Panthers and had an early 11-4 lead in the first quarter, but a series of turnovers by the Huskies put them behind 13-19 at the end of the first quarter. The Huskies had some hope in the second quarter after Siebert made a couple of free throws and Alvarez scored two, and they were only behind 22-25. This was as close as they got to catching the Panthers, losing 59-79.

Siebert led the Huskies with 18 points, and Goertzen had 15, but Fillmore Central’s Stoner scored a game-high 31 points for the Panthers. With this loss, the Huskies fall to 3-9, and the Panthers are 9-3.
