York County Press Release
YORK COUNTY – York County Highway Superintendent Harvey Keim told the York County Commissioners this week the County Road W overpass (over Interstate 80) is closed indefinitely as it was hit by a vehicle on Interstate 80.
This is the second time this year an overpass structure was hit by an interstate-traveling vehicle and had to be replaced. The other was on Road M.
Keim said the damage to the Road W structure was discovered Monday, and the stretch of road over the interstate was immediately closed. He said he didn’t have any information about what type of vehicle hit the structure or how it happened.
The replacement of the overpass is the responsibility of the Nebraska Department of Transportation.
Keim said he didn’t know when that overpass structure would be replaced.
Meanwhile, the repair work on the overpass on County Road M is nearly done. Interstate traffic had to be channeled to Highway 34 two nights recently, as work on that particular stretch was being done. He said NDOT crews are getting ready to pour the deck there, “It might be open this year, but I guess it will be next year. They will not have to close I-80 completely any longer for the Road M work to take place. But that will have to happen when the Road W work gets underway.”
