Exciting news is happening, ensuring the continued growth of Henderson!
The City of Henderson sold their first spec house they started building through a housing grant they were awarded last year. The general contractor for building the house was SENDD Contracting, who took care of getting all the bids.
Mayor Corbin Tessman said the building project took just under 12 months. “We were pretty pleased with how the project went. We had a few hiccups, but I think that’s typical for any building project,” he said.
The house was sold to William and Leslie Obrinsky, who already owned a home in Henderson. The City sold the house for $315,000. The city spent more money on this particular project because of the demolition of the previous older home and the removal of trees.
“The purpose behind these projects is to list the house and sell it. We were happy to sell the house quickly, providing a nice home for a young family in town. It’s a win-win for Henderson and adds another house to provide additional property tax,” said Mayor Tessman.
The City is already considering where they want to build their next house. “We are actively looking at available lots and will be making a decision in the next few months,” said Mayor Tessman. When a location is secured, their next step will be to make another application through SENDD, said Mayor Tessman.
The new Highlands Addition on the southwest side of town is another larger housing project the City has been working on for a few years. “The bids for building the streets and inutilities have just come in, and we are encouraged to see they are well under what the engineers estimated,” said Mayor Tessman. He said they would consider the bids closely with their engineers before their next meeting.
When the City Council meets on Tuesday, January 17th, they will accept a bid, and work should begin on the new subdivision by next April, according to City Clerk Connie Brown. She anticipates completion of the work by November of 2025 if everything stays on schedule and lots will be ready for building homes.
