Karley Friesen owns and operates her new Coverley Boutique in Henderson in this cute white shed at 1020 14th Street.

A new, unique boutique just opened in Henderson, Coverley Boutique. It’s located on the east side of the downtown park and is owned by Karley Friesen. “I’ve always dreamed of owning my own business and have always had an interest in design,” said Friesen. Her boutique features modest women’s clothing and an array of accessories like hats, shoes, jewelry, and sunglasses.

She chose the name of her boutique because “Coverley” encompasses everything she imagined. It specializes in modest clothing for women and offers various stylish options for all ages, from middle school to high school and beyond. Their grand opening was held on June 22, when they served refreshments and enjoyed greeting the public who attended.

Although she had no experience in retail, she did have a background in customer service and began doing extensive research about how to start a boutique. Next, she contacted Lisa Hurley at the York County Development Corporation, where she learned about a grant for starting new businesses at GROW Nebraska. The Nebraska Small Business Assistance Act made the program possible, and she was eligible to apply.

“After writing my business plan, I applied for their grant and was awarded $25,000 to assist me in getting it off the ground,” said Friesen. She used most of the grant to finish the inside with display racks, shelving, and furniture. She said that her mother, Stephanie Friesen, assisted her through the grant writing process and has been available to help with any day-to-day needs at the boutique.

Since there weren’t any suitable rentals in Henderson for her boutique, Friesen approached her grandparents, Vern & Jackie Ediger, who owned an extra lot next to their property. They agreed to let her move in a prebuilt building and locate it at 1020 14th Street. The new building, which she calls a “pretty white shed,” is inviting, with great lighting, and is perfect for displaying her boutique items. There is ample parking since it is located just East of Henderson City Park.

Business hours are Tuesday through Friday from 12 to 6 and Saturday from 9 to noon.

“We’ve had a pretty steady flow of customers checking us out since we opened a few weeks ago. Every couple weeks, we will be getting new things in,” said Friesen. She looks forward to adding more inventory and a larger variety of accessories like women’s handbags in the future.

It is great to see a young entrepreneur go for their dream right here in Henderson. Coverley Boutique is a Henderson Chamber of Commerce member, so check out this new local business and support it!
