The Henderson Health Care Jr. Auxiliary was a volunteer organization that raised funds for various HHCS projects over the past 20 years. The group has not been active for the past several years and recently closed out its account, donating its remaining $4,311.08 to the Henderson Healthcare Foundation.

“This money will be used to purchase a HemoCue Express Centrifuge that will be used in the new laboratory. This advanced high-speed blood spinner will be used for everyone who has their blood drawn at HHCS,” said former HHCS Jr. Auxiliary president Marcia Regier.

The HHCS Jr. Auxiliary was started in 2004 as another volunteer group to assist the hospital through fundraising events. They sponsored the annual Henderson Community Days 3 on 3 Basketball Tournament for many years and then later took over running the Henderson Community Days Home Run, renaming it the Jr. Auxiliary Jaunt.

Their annual photo scrapbooking night in January, held at the Bethesda Fellowship Hall, was a favorite fundraiser sponsored by the Jr. Auxiliary. For many years, they partnered with the Heartland HEA organization and provided “baby bags” filled with a variety of gifts and a book for the parents of newborns at HHCS. Other fundraising projects were selling homemade ice cream at the Henderson Home Show, their Christmas-themed homemade cookies sale at the annual Noodle Soup Supper, and the Renae Epp Memorial Spa Night.

Here are just a few of the projects they were able to fund through their efforts: Clinic office furniture for the doctors, a digital blood pressure machine for the Henderson EMTs, remodeling a linen closet at the hospital into a Hospitality room, redecoration of the hair salon and new landscaping at the former Henderson Care Center. In the Wellness Center, they donated large TV screens and exercise equipment.

In 2017, laptop computers were purchased through funds from the Jr. Auxiliary when all areas of the clinic and hospital switched to EMR (electronic medical records). Other items donated were a transcutaneous bilirubin monitor, a blanket warmer, three electronic blood pressure monitors, and an X-ray chair designed for children.

Kudos to the HHCS Jr. Auxiliary, whose volunteers over the years were a hard-working group dedicated to being a helping hand to HHCS! They raised thousands of dollars for Henderson Health Care Services, helping it grow and better serve its staff and patients, and will be remembered for their final donation.
