The Heartland Huskie girls and boys track teams had an awesome day at the District D-6 track meet at Kenesaw High School on Wednesday, May 8th. Both teams had many PRs, with the girls placing 1st and the boys 5th. Six girls punched their tickets for the State Track Meet in six events, and ten boys qualified for five events.

Head Coach Christa Lindsay said the Huskies had a very successful district meet, with the athletes stepping up to the challenge and performing to the best of their abilities. “We saw multiple PRs and are excited to be bringing 16 total athletes to State next week. I am so thankful for a supportive and motivated staff and athletes who always give their all. We are also very thankful for all the support from our school and community.”

The girls’ team brought home the gold, scoring a team-high 110 points. Freshman Tara Buzek had a spectacular day, placing first in the 800 M Run, 1600 M Run, and 3200 M Run. She was also on the Heartland 4 x 400 Relay team (Hayden Mierau, Isabel Johnson, Mariah Tessman) that won first place with a time of 4:25.03. Hayden Mierau placed first in the 200 M Run, and Mariah Tessman won the pole vault.

On the boys’ side, Luis Alvarez set a PR, placing second in the 200 M Dash with a time of 51.61.
