Coach Taylor Siebert is entering his second year coaching the Heartland Boys Basketball team.
“We had a great first week of practice and made huge gains in skill development and further establishing our identity as a team,” said head coach Taylor Siebert. This is Siebert’s second year to coach the Huskie boys’ basketball program. He’s excited about the hard work, communication, and competitive spirit he’s seen in practice the past couple of weeks.
After losing a large senior class from last year, junior forward Thane Wetjen and senior guard Hudson Regier are the only returning starters for the Huskies. Returning letter winners are juniors Luis Alvarez (guard), Sam Quiring (forward), and Carter Siebert (forward). Senior returning letter winners this year are Nick Thieszen (guard), and Hendric Switzer (forward).
“I’m really proud of the upperclassmen and how they’ve taken a leadership role. Before the season started, they established a set of standards that we live by each day. This has pushed and challenged us to go to the next level,” said Coach Siebert.
This year’s team is like a whole new one since so many seniors started last year. Siebert hopes to build on the junior varsity success this new group had last year and gain momentum at the varsity level. He is looking for these players to step up and play a much bigger role this season. There are 20 boys on the team for the Huskies this year.
One player to watch is 6’3” Senior Hendric Switzer, who didn’t get a lot of varsity experience last year, but Coach Siebert expects him to have a breakout year. The Huskies posted an 8-13 record last year and hope to improve on that.
“We have some exciting players to watch this season and can’t wait to open the season in front of our home crowd against Fairbury on November 30th!” said Coach Siebert. Clay Bergen will join Siebert as the assistant coach this year again.
