It was a busy week for the Huskies! Here are the results for the two golf meets, triangular volleyball matches at Wilbur/Clatonia, and the home football game in Henderson. Let’s start with the big win for the Heartland Football team at their first home game Friday night.

Heartland Wins 34-19 Over Nebraska Christian

Heartland’s first home game was an exciting one with a few lead changes, but Heartland dominated in the third quarter, ensuring their first win of the season.

The passing game between Heartland’s quarterback Hudson Regier and Carter Siebert was clicking during their game against Nebraska Christian Friday night. Siebert had nine catches for 147 yards for the game.

The first quarter was scoreless for both teams, but the Huskies got their offense jumpstarted in the second quarter.

The Huskies scored first in the second quarter on a fourth down play when Regier connected with Siebert for a much-needed first down. Two plays later, Regier scored with the keeper, and the Huskies were on the scoreboard with six points. They failed on their two-point conversion.

It was a back-and-forth game offensively, and the Nebraska Christian Eagles scored and made an extra point late in the third quarter, giving them the lead at 7-6.

With less than a minute left in the half, Siebert caught a pass for a 27-yard gain. Luis Alvarez ran for another first down, and Regier finished off the drive by running in for the touchdown. The Huskies failed in their two-point conversion try, but they left the first half with momentum and the lead at 12-7.

The lead changed again in the third quarter when the Eagles scored but failed in their two-point conversion attempt, and they led 13-12. The Huskies responded quickly when Regier made a pass to the corner, where Siebert made a 38-yard play setting up for another Huskie touchdown. The Huskies were successful on their two-point conversion, and the score was 20-13.

The Huskies were rolling offensively and moving the ball down the field. Siebert ran it in for another touchdown, and their two-point conversion was good, bringing their lead to 28-13.

The Eagles got fired up when Brody Flynn returned a kickoff for the score but failed in their extra point conversion, making the score 28-19.

With 9:35 left in the fourth quarter, Luis Alvarez intercepted an Eagles pass that led to a Huskie touchdown a few plays later. They failed on their two-point conversion, and the score was 34-19.

It was a hard-hitting game, and Regier led the team in tackles with 9, Andrew Franz 8, Carter Siebert 7, Nick Thieszen 7, Sam Quiring 6, and Luis Alvarez 5.

Regier was a workhorse and led the team with 24 carries, 115 yards gained, and scored two touchdowns. Alvarez had 10 carries and 42 yards gained. Siebert had 13 carries, 33 yards gained, and scored two touchdowns.
