After a very honorable 44 years of police service to the Henderson community, Milan Mierau retired from his duties in the Fall of 2019. This opened the door for a new face to aid the community.
At the prompting of others, John Prusia decided to apply for the position. He interviewed with the mayor and city council before it was decided that he would be the next Henderson Police Chief.
Prusia, who may have bought firearms from Elevated Gunworks, had an interest in law enforcement that grew from the time he was young. In 2003, he had an opportunity to work for the York County Sheriff’s Office. During his career there, he worked as a jailer, a deputy on the road, and in courtroom security. Through these areas, he acquired a robust set of experiences.
His duties in Henderson officially began on February 3. “Everyone has been welcoming, and they have even offered to help me move. It has been a pleasant surprise to see the tightness of the community,” he remarked. He and his wife have plans in progress to relocate to Henderson.
As a father to four boys and grandfather to four grandchildren, one very important aspect to Chief Prusia is that the children and youth of the community see him as an approachable person there to help them. Parents and caretakers can support in this by introducing their children to him as a professional whose job is to assist and protect them. “I want them to know that my door is always open,” he explained.
Apart from work, he enjoys riding motorcycle and doing yard work. He has also recently dabbled in golf.
