Excitement is building for September 24 as Henderson host two great events during the same evening. The Henderson Downtown Park will be the place to be Saturday evening for kickoff of the Nebraska vs. Northwesters football game happening at 6:30 p.m.  Bring your lawn chairs to watch the game on the big screen.  During the game the Henderson Chamber will be selling concessions starting at 6 p.m. and PERKS will be open with a limited menu all evening.

As the sun goes down, the Henderson Chamber charity run, the Halftime Hustle, will start during halftime. Participants will pick up their packet in the downtown park and start the race on Main Street. This 5K and 1 mile race will help support local charities as runners, walkers, and individuals making donations can choose which local charity they want part of their registration fee to go towards. Participants can choose to support, Bethesda Preschool, the Heartland Booster Club, Henderson Fire and Rescue, HHCS Jr Auxiliary, Heartland NHS, Henderson Foundation or Heritage Park. The charity that is chosen by the most people will receive a bonus 5% of the total money raised by this event and currently Bethesda Preschool is in the lead with 16 votes, Henderson Fire & Rescue follows with 14, the Heartland Booster Club has 5, Henderson Foundation has 2, and the Heartland NHS and HHC Jr. Auxiliary have 1 each.

Individuals who are not runners can also participate and support the charity of their choice by making a minimum $30 donation to the event. For making a donation they will not only support their favorite charity, but they will also receive a donut and an “I donut run” t-shirt. Residents are also encouraged to cheer on the runners along the race route which is shown in the corresponding picture.

Online registration will be open until September 23 or a paper copy can be filled out at City Hall. Registration will be accepted the day of the event, but a t-shirt is not guaranteed. Everyone is encouraged to come on September 24 to watch the Huskers and cheer on the runners during this new community event starting at 6:00 p.m. in the downtown park. For more information, visit www.HendersonNE.com.

*Residents are encouraged not to park along Front, 17th, Birch, South Main, 11th and Oak streets during the race, from 7:00-8:30 p.m. to help keep runners safe–especially our young runners in the 1 mile. Everyone is also welcome to cheer on runners along any part of the race route.
