Robotics are sweeping the nation and gathering many interested students along the way. Heartland Community Schools Junior High joined in the sensation this year by forming its first robotics team. Under the direction of sponsors Carrie Regier and Marietta Adams, junior high students formed a competitive First Lego League (FLL) Robotics Team. This year’s team has 10 students.
Every year FLL releases a new challenge based on a real-world scientific issue. This year’s Challenge is called “Trash Trekâ€. The purpose is to reduce trash or change the way we handle it. Each Challenge consists of three parts: the Robot Game, the Project, and the FLL Core Values. The Huskie Bots meet twice a week and work on programming a robot to complete different missions on the playing field. Students also work on developing an innovative solution to the trash challenge. Huskie Bots also work on team building activities and developing positive relationships.
After a competition in Columbus on January 23, the team qualified to compete at state. It will be held in late February at the SAC museum. Congratulations to these students and sponsors successfully for pioneering a new activity at Heartland!
