One Thousand Gifts by Ann Voskamp
Review by Alyssa Bartek
A few times in life, you are fortunate enough to pick up a book that completely changes your outlook for the better. That’s what happened to me when I borrowed “One Thousand Gifts†by Ann Voskamp.  While I knew the book was a popular bestseller, I had no idea the change it perspective it was going to bring to my life.
The tagline reads, “A dare to live fully right where you are.†As I began reading the beautiful and poetic writing that composed the pages of the book, I was immersed into learning about gratitude, thankfulness, and praise.  This wasn’t just any ordinary book about those topics though, as the writer intimately shares her thoughts, feelings, and lessons in a way that changes how you see your own life.
Through the book, Voskamp recounts tragedies that have plagued her life and her search for joy along the way.  As a Christian, she dives into scripture to teach readers about giving thanks to God and changing the way we see everyday moments.  When you start calling out the blessings of your life, a change in attitude can’t help but follow.
I could have marked up the pages with highlighted and underlined quotes if it would have been my own book. Â I slowly read through the pages trying to soak in all of the epiphanies. Â This will definitely be a book I will purchase and treasure for a long time to come.
“The whole of the life — even the hard — is made up of the minute parts, and if I miss the infinitesimals, I miss the whole. These are new language lessons, and I live them out. There is a way to live the big of giving thanks in all things. It is this: to give thanks in this one small thing. The moments will add up.†–Ann Voskamp
