The Heartland Huskie Volleyball team came out and played big at the Hastings St. Cecilia tournament Tuesday and Thursday. Â After winning both games on Tuesday, Heartland came back to take on two solid teams in Thayer Central and Hastings St. Cecilia, both ranked opponents.
The Huskies fought hard and played great volleyball against Thayer Central. Â The intensity was through the roof and the Huskies pulled through in a big way to beat the Titans in three sets, winning the first and third.
Ashton Kroeker was a huge asset at the net, started to look more injury-free from last year’s ACL tear, she aided in containing
Thayer Central’s big hitters. Â Jordan Bittinger proved her jersey as the libero by picking up most that came her way. Â The Huskie hitters were hot and setting was efficient. Â A well-rounded game.
They went on to play the Hawkettes of Hastings St. Cecilia, who are ranked #1 in C-2. Â It was apparent that both teams were showing signs of fatigue from previous matches, but was still a good match, start to finish. Â The Huskies took the first set and showed signs of winning the game by making a valiant comeback in the second set, but fell just short. Â The Hawkettes ended up winning the second and third set and taking their tournament title. Â This didn’t come without a fight from Heartland.
The level of play is climbing for the Huskies and at the right time of the season.  They improve to a 9-4 record as they head into the Friend tournament tomorrow (Saturday).  Be sure to listen live audio on the Heartland Huskie Network if you are unable to make the tournament in the morning.
