The York Relay for Life to benefit the American Cancer Society is fast approaching! The event takes place this weekend at the York County Fairgrounds beginning Saturday, June 9 at 5:30 p.m. with survivor registration and the freewill donation dinner at the various fundraising team ‘campsites’. Cancer survivors will be given tokens to exchange for ‘free’ food items of their choice. All others will be asked to make donations for the foods that they choose.
Main dish items that will be available include hamburgers, ribs and barbeque pork, sloppy joes and hotdogs. There will be side dishes to round-out the meal: macaroni salad, potato salad, fruit, fresh veggies and chips. There will also be an abundance of snack foods to finish off the meal or to munch on through-out the evening: sno cones, cookies and cupcakes, pretzels, ice cream, cinnamon rolls and trail mix. A variety of beverages will also be available to quench the thirst including bottled water, soft drinks, coffee and hot chocolate.
Many teams will also have on-site fundraisers for those that wish to buy a chance at a raffle, participate in a silent auction or purchase small items.
Highlights of the evening for many include the survivors lap beginning at 7:00 p.m., the Luminaria Lighting Ceremony with live Bag Pipe music at 10:00 p.m. and the memorial slide show at 10:30 p.m.
All are welcome to attend this event to honor the cancer survivors and remember those loved ones that have lost their cancer battles.
Henderson 2012 Relay Team Members include Team Captains Kim Epp and Kathryn Goertzen, Amy Doremus, Sue Sullivan, Doris Kroeker, Arlyce Friesen, Myron Friesen, Melissa Goertzen and Barb Casper. Donations can still be made through any of these team members OR may be left with Melissa Goertzen at Mainstay Communications through Thursday, June 7. Thanks for your generosity to this important cause!
