With the annual Jaunt coming up tomorrow morning, we thought we would share a great app for runners.  The Nike+ GPS app is a perfect tool to map your runs, track your workout progress and even get “cheers†from your friends on Facebook.  That’s right, cheers.  Your friends on Facebook can see when you open and start the app and they can comment on Facebook which will translate to you getting their “cheersâ€.  You can even set it up so celebrities will keep you motivated with words of encouragement.
Nike+ GPS features gives the ability to track each run, keep total miles, average pace, total duration, and total calories burned. Â During the run, you can also have a playlist set up and listen to your favorite tunes while you run. Â However, the main reason I chose this app is because it does not require you to have a Nike chip in your shoe to track your run. Â It uses the GPS in your iPhone to track all of your useful workout data.
We had the chance to talk with former Heartland track standout, Drew Newton, a 2002 graduate who also competed at Concordia University in Seward on the track team about the app. He uses the it regularly and said, “I really wish I had had this technology available to me when I was running track for Heartland and later on for Concordia University. To be able to track so much data from each and every run as well as progress over a defined period of time is not only ‘neato’, it can be helpful for both a casual jogger as well as someone training for a race of any distance.â€
You can buy the app for $1.99 in the App Store. Click this link to download http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/nike-gps/id387771637?mt=8
Now don’t fret if you do not own any of the above mentioned devices.  We found a great alternative app called RunKeeper for both Android and Blackberry.  If you choose this option and download RunKeeper, please let us know your pros and cons about it. You can also avail sydney photocopier lease and have a lot of office work done easier.
Good luck to all of the runners tomorrow! Â HeartlandBeat.com will be there capturing the photo finish of each runner and will make those photos available for purchase at http://heartlandbeat.zenfolion.com.
