Who says you can’t find a Heartlandbeat.com student of the month in July?  We finally caught up with Heartland senior to be Rick Siebert after a whirlwind of FFA (Future Farmer’s of America) related activities he has been involved in since school got out in May.  Siebert was nominated by FFA sponsor/teacher Cole Blomendahl who said, “Rick was a huge help in contacting all the officers and members of FFA and getting things lined up for the Community Days weekend.”

Rick Siebert

Siebert who is Heartland’s FFA President has had anything but a boring summer.  He started out attending Boys’ State in June followed by the FFA Coop conference where he received more chapter/officer training.  Henderson Community Days was a success due to people like Siebert who led the local FFA chapter that entered a float in the parade, ran the dunk tank in the park, organized the Dodge Ball Tournament and Sand Volleyball tournament all in one weekend.

“I like FFA because it is a great way to keep up-to-date on the difference aspects of agriculture,” said Siebert.  When we contacted Siebert this week, he had returned from a very busy few days at the Nebraska Ag Institute where he was doing just that–learning more about agriculture.   Siebert grew up on the family farm, with his parents Larry and Jeannie Siebert, about 6 miles northeast of Henderson where he has always helped on the farm as long as he can remember.

So even though school is out, Siebert will be busy representing the Heartland FFA chapter clear through the Nebraska State Fair in August where he will be entering the ATV trailer he built as his project.  “I like FFA because it gives me an opportunity to practice leadership skills not only in a school setting but elsewhere while I prepare for my college career,” said Siebert.  He is leaning towards attending the University of Nebraska where he would more than likely focus on agriculture specializing in science and engineering.

Congratulations to Rick Siebert on being nominated as Heartlandbeat.com’s July student of the month!  His hard work and dedicated volunteer spirit throughout the summer months makes him a great inspiration to other students and a positive role model.
