Heartland Community Schools release
The Heartland Quiz Bowl team traveled to Seward on April 2nd to participate in the GFWC/NFWC Classic quiz bowl competition.
The day started with each of Heartland’s two teams competing in three round-robin matches. Both teams ended the morning with a perfect 3-0 record. When the seedings came out for the double elimination tournament after lunch, the A team was seeded 2nd and the B team was seeded 5th.
The tournament pitted the B team against the B team from McCool Junction for a rematch of an earlier round. The Huskies won 45-20 and then faced the number 4 seed from Nebraska Lutheran A. The match went back and forth with Heartland pulling out a 75-65 victory. This led to a final four matchup with the A team from McCool Junction. The Huskies came out on the losing end of a well-played match. The Heartland B team then faced the B team from Nebraska Lutheran and came home with 3rd place.
The A team had a first-round bye before taking on the A team from Friend. The Huskies won the match handily and then faced the B team from Nebraska Lutheran for a trip to the finals. The A team won the match 95-55 and then faced the A team from McCool Junction for the championship. The win was never in doubt, with a convincing 145-25 victory over the Mustangs. The team brought home the trophy and gold medals.
