Four Corners Press Release

Bad storms, power outages, and other unexpected events can happen anytime. Being prepared helps keep people safe. A simple way to prepare is by making an emergency kit. Experts suggest having four types of kits: a go-bag, a stay-at-home bag, a car emergency kit, and an everyday carry kit.

What to Pack in Your Kits

  • Go-Bag: A small backpack with key supplies if you need to leave quickly. Pack water, food that won’t spoil, a first aid kit, a flashlight, extra batteries, important documents, and personal items like medication and hygiene products.
  • Stay-at-Home Bag: Items for when you need to stay inside for several days. This bag should have bottled water, food that does not need to be cooked, prescription medications, a battery-powered radio, and bathroom supplies.
  • Car Emergency Kit: Items to keep in your car in case of breakdowns or bad weather. Make sure to have jumper cables, a flashlight, a multi-tool, blankets, a first aid kit, and snacks.
  • Everyday Carry Kit: A small kit to have with you at all times. A flashlight, multi-tool, portable phone charger, personal ID, and basic first-aid supplies can be helpful in everyday emergencies.

We are offering a Preparedness Cookbook in collaboration with the University of Nebraska Extension. This book will help families plan healthy meals using shelf-stable ingredients. It also gives useful recipes and meal-planning tips that can be used during power outages, supply shortages, or other emergencies. If you are interested in getting one, contact Four Corners.
