It’s time to plant POTATOES!

Lots of planting is happening at Celsea’s garden this week! Her kids, Eisley and Everly, are in on the fun of getting the potatoes into the ground.

On Monday, they planted eight pounds of Yukon Gold and Kennebec potatoes. Celsea cuts them up and dips them in wood ash to help prevent rotting. She planted her potatoes in 8-inch deep trenches and 8-inches apart.

Lettuce (pictured below) and Kale have also been planted. Celsea started her own Kale inside but purchased the lettuce plants. “I haven’t had much luck with starting my own lettuce in the past, so I just buy it,” she said.

In early April, she planted Sugar Snap Pea seeds directly in the ground, and they are all up!

If you’ve tried growing fruit trees in Nebraska, you know Mother Nature can make it tough. Celsea has numerous fruit trees in her yard that she’s been waiting for to mature. “I’m excited to see our plum tree blooming for the first time, and we have our first apple blossoms appearing,” she said.
