York County Press Release
YORK – Glenwood Telecommunications will soon be embarking on a second broadband expansion project in York County.
This project will make high-speed internet available to 53 unserved locations in the Lushton area.
This past week, the York County Commissioners met with Jennifer Reiman from Glenwood.
Glenwood applied for a grant to help pay for this project with the county commissioners also appropriating $400,000 to help make it happen.
She said this will be a $1.4 million project. $981,961.98 of that came from a Nebraska Public Service Commission grant.
“The timeline for this project is that we’d like to have the plows in the ground by April and start hooking up people in July,” Reiman said.
She also added that they will start communicating with households in the project area, about the availability of high-speed internet, in April.
This broadband expansion will reach within 1 ½ miles of Lushton, serving all rural properties.
York County Commissioner Daniel Grotz commented how, when he and York County Commissioner Randy Obermier were at a recent meeting of the Nebraska Association of County Officials, “We heard nothing but really great things about other counties working with Glenwood. The general feeling about your company around the state is really good.”
Obermier agreed, noting how when Glenwood did an earlier project near McCool Junction, there were no complaints or comments about the company’s work practices or presence.
“We look forward to moving forward with you to further expand high-speed internet in the rural part of the county,” Obermier told Reiman.
