We are excited to introduce Meg (Vogt) Bonner with her new Health & Wellness column on Heartlandbeat! Meg is no stranger to Henderson since she grew up here when her father, Dr. Merlyn Vogt, had a dental practice in town. She will provide a Health & Wellness monthly column packed with ideas, information, and strategies for improving your long-term health.

Meg Bonner: A Nurse on a Mission to Get Back to the Basics

I’m thrilled to join you each month through this column to share insights on health, wellness, and the power of prevention.

For over a decade, I had the privilege of working at an incredible hospital in Lincoln, NE. Most of my time was spent in Progressive Care and the Float Pool, giving me the opportunity to care for patients across all areas of the hospital. Those years provided invaluable insights into patient care and the realities of health challenges. However, they also sparked a deep passion within me: the desire to help keep people out of the hospital whenever possible by educating them on the power of prevention.

Over the past year, I’ve embarked on an exciting new chapter in my career as a Nurse Coach. In this new role, I combine my nursing expertise with coaching skills to empower and support individuals in achieving sustainable, personal health goals. Nurse Coaches guide clients to take the driver’s seat in their health journey, focusing on prevention, lifestyle changes, and building strong foundations for wellness.

As a wife of 17 years and a proud mom to five incredible kids, I’m no stranger to life’s challenges. Our family’s journey with Type 1 Diabetes and Lyme disease has deepened my passion for raising awareness and promoting holistic, preventative approaches to health. These experiences have taught us the importance of prioritizing faith, health, and sustainable habits, even amidst the busyness of homeschooling, work, and daily life.

Beyond my personal experiences, my 13 years in healthcare have taught me that health doesn’t have to be overly complicated—prevention is often the key. True wellness is about finding balance and vitality across all areas of life—physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual. Optimal health requires building a solid foundation built on nutrient-rich foods, staying active, managing stress, and strengthening meaningful relationships. True health is about flourishing, not just simply avoiding illness while staying true to your values and purpose.

Through this column, my goal is to simplify the often-overwhelming world of health and wellness. Between the latest fads and the noise of the internet, it’s easy to feel lost from time to time. I hope to help cut through the clutter, provide actionable advice, and focus on what truly matters: building sustainable habits supporting long-term health. Creating a solid foundation that empowers you to steward your body well, will no doubt help you to live life to its fullest!

I’m excited to offer actionable tools, compelling insights, and quick tips each month to equip you to make wellness a priority in your own life.
