Four Corners Health Department Press Release

Being a parent is the most important and challenging job you will ever have. All parents need support and good information! Healthy Families Nebraska – Four Corners is for moms and families with a baby on the way or up to 3 months old. We serve families in Butler, Polk, Seward, and York counties.

Involvement is always free and your choice. We like to start with weekly visits. When you’re getting ready for birth, or in those early days after the baby has come, so much happens so fast! Things will change day by day with you and your baby. As time goes on, we will likely find that you don’t need us to come weekly anymore, and we’ll come less often. Once you sign up, you and your family can be a part of the program until your baby is at least 3 years old!

We partner with you for:

  • Support: Think about what you want for yourself, your baby, and your family. You’ll have someone to walk with you as you take steps to get there.
  • Relief: Explore new coping skills to help with the stress that can come from being pregnant, having a new baby, or other daily life events.
  • Fun: Find fun activities you can do with the baby and the whole family.
  • Information: Learn about your developing baby, caring for a newborn, how to include the whole family in daily routines and other topics.
  • Connection: Get linked to local resources and find opportunities for group events. Get help with referrals, scheduling appointments, and arranging transportation if needed.

Benefits of the program are:

  • A Healthy Childhood: Find health insurance and a health care provider. Get information on healthy eating and other childhood health issues.
  • A Safe Environment: Get access to home safety items such as smoke detectors and more. Get car seat safety support, tests for lead and radon, and referrals to many community safety options.
  • Encouraged Development: From routine growth screenings, you can learn about programs and share activities based on skills and growth with caregivers.
  • Playtime: Learn about activities that support bonding and help form a positive relationship with all the important caregivers in the baby’s life.

The first years of a baby’s life are the most important for forming health and well-being that can last a lifetime. When caregivers can understand the baby’s cues, it helps the baby grow up to be happy and healthy. Support for families should be based on respectful and trusting relationships.

We believe that all parents are the experts on their children and what their family needs. To learn more about the Healthy Families program, call Four Corners at 402-362-2621 or email Halea at HaleaP@fourcorners.ne.gov.
