The Heartland Huskies hosted a triangular Tuesday night with the Doniphan-Trumbull Cardinals and the Giltner Hornets. Their first match was against the Cardinals, which they lost 14-25 and 11-25.

The Huskies’ next match against the Hornets was closer, with them losing 18-25 in the first set. The Huskies were leading 13-9, but the Hornets won the next three points, leading to a Huskie timeout. The timeout helped the Huskies win the next two points, including an ace serve from Riley Quiring. Isabel Johnson was solid in the back row, keeping the ball in play for the Huskies, but they couldn’t get any momentum against the Hornets.

The Huskies had a hot start in the second set, with a kill from Jaelyn Brown giving them a 3-1 lead. Heartland had kills by Maddie Janzen, Jamisen Klein, Sophie Minary, and Laura Splinter, but they had trouble returning serves from the Hornets. They couldn’t generate enough offense and lost 16-25.

Doniphan-Trumbull won the triangular, winning against the Hornets 25-14 and 25-20.

The Huskies will have another home match on Thursday, where they will be facing off against Superior.
