On Wednesday, October 16, eight students from Heartland attended the History/Geography Quiz Bowl competition in Seward. During the morning round-robin matches, the B team lost to eventual runner-up Clarkson and the team from Howells-Dodge before defeating Fullerton. The B team secured the #10 seed for the afternoon single-elimination match and faced the same team from Fullerton. Despite a furious comeback after a slow start, they lost the closely contested match.
The A team finished the morning with a perfect 3-0 record, winning over teams from Dorchester, Hampton, and Shelby-Rising City to earn the #1 seed. The afternoon tournament consisted of matches against Hampton and Shelby-Rising City again before meeting up with the team from Exeter-Milligan. Unfortunately, the questions were not in Heartland’s favor, and Exeter-Milligan defeated the A team before defeating Wilber-Clatonia to secure 3rd place.
