York University and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes teamed up for Fields of Faith at the York High School gymnasium. Over 400 student-athletes from East Central Nebraska gathered on Wednesday, Oct. 9, to hear the good news of the gospel. York High School athletes read Scripture, and Sean Algaier, who was formerly on tour with Toby Mac and now works at York University, led the worship music.
The keynote speaker was Jim Morris, played by Dennis Quaid in the movie “The Rookie.” Jim, “the rookie,” Morris shared his powerful story of faith in sports at Fields of Faith at the event. Through adversity in life and baseball, Jim found comfort, strength, and peace in Jesus Christ.
“It was a fun night, and it was really neat seeing people from all the schools in our area come together to worship and learn about God. I really enjoyed hearing about Morris’s experiences,” said Heartland Senior Austin Schmidt.
Heartland FCA leader Tara Maltsberger said 28 Heartland students took the school bus to the event, but more kids came from Heartland on their own or with church youth leaders. According to Maltsberger, all churches from Henderson were represented at the event.
FCA East Central representative Randy Huebert said Morris’s story “appeals to all because his testimony reveals God’s grace in success, trials, and doubt.”
