Four Corners Health Department Press Release
Now is a great time to make sure your children are up to date on the vaccines they need as they start a new school year! August is National Immunization Awareness Month!
Four Corners offers the Vaccines for Children (VFC) program. A child is eligible for the VFC Program if he or she is younger than nineteen and is one of the following: Medicaid-eligible, uninsured, underinsured, American Indian, or Alaska Native. Registration is required and is available in English and Spanish. A parent or guardian must be present.

Here are some tips to help make it a less stressful shot visit!
- Keep track of the vaccines you or your child has gotten.
- Get a list of vaccines you or your child may need.
- Read any vaccine-related materials the healthcare provider shares with you before coming to the appointment.
- Write down any questions you may have.
- If you or your child find needles difficult, tell the nurses ahead of time.
- Plan a positive distraction. Often, telling a joke or a happy story can distract from the quick pinch a shot can give.
- Be honest. Tell your child that a shot can pinch or sting but it will be quick and then be over.
- Engage others to be supportive as well.
- Avoid telling scary stories or making threats about shots.
- Share reminders that vaccines can keep you healthy.
