York County Press Release

YORK – Wednesday morning, York County Sheriff Paul Vrbka released the name of the person killed in an SUV/semi accident on Highway 34 on Tuesday, July 9.

He says Robin L. Hendricksen, 71, of Grand Island was killed when the vehicle he was driving crossed the center line and hit a semi head-on, shortly after 10 a.m.

The accident occurred on the highway near the entrance to the York Municipal Airport.

Captain Josh Gillespie said the accident was witnessed by several people who confirmed Hendricksen crossed into the other lane, which caused the collision.

Hendricksen was pronounced dead at the scene.

Responding to the accident were the York County Sheriff’s Office, the York Police Department, York Fire and Rescue, the Nebraska State Patrol, Hitz Towing, and the Nebraska Department of Transportation.

Sheriff Vrbka says the investigation continues.

York County has seen a large number of fatal accidents this summer. Three people were killed in an accident at the junction of Highway 34 East and Highway 81 in late May. Then, on the Fourth of July, a motorcyclist was killed at the intersection of Road P and Highway 34.
