York County Press Release
YORK — Captain Josh Gillespie with the York County Sheriff’s Department has confirmed that one person was confirmed deceased following a crash on Highway 34 just west of York Tuesday morning, July 9.
He said the call came in sometime between 10 and 11 a.m. — he said exact details of the crash will be released on Wednesday, July 10.
“The crash occurred next to the entrance to the York Municipal Airport,” Gillespie said Tuesday evening. “A semi was westbound on Highway 34 when an eastbound SUV crossed over the center line and hit the semi head-on. This was confirmed by witnesses who saw the accident happen.
The driver of the SUV was killed, and the semi-driver was not injured. At this point, that is information we can release as the investigation is ongoing, and we are in the process of contacting all the next of kin. Because of that, we will not be releasing the name of the deceased or other details until Wednesday.”
He said he wanted to thank agencies for assisting the York County Sheriff’s Department: York Fire Department, the Nebraska State Patrol, the York Police Department, Hitz Towing, and the Nebraska Department of Transportation.
This is the second fatality accident in York County since the Fourth of July when a motorcyclist was killed on Highway 34 at the intersection with Road P just east of York.
