York County Press Release

YORK COUNTY – A public hearing, regarding solar project zoning regulations in York County has been officially set for 6 p.m., on Monday, June 17, in Room I at the Holthus Convention Center.

The county commissioners will be holding the hearing, presenting the proposed regulations as they stand at this time.

Public comment will be taken.

This comes after months of conversation and hearings before the county’s planning and zoning commission and then the same by the county board of commissioners.

The zoning regulations that will be presented, for conversation, can be viewed at https://www.yorkcounty.ne.gov/uploads/1/4/5/5/145507130/solar_regulations_updated_040324.pdf

This week, when the county commissioners met in regular session, York County Commissioner Chairman Randy Obermier reminded everyone of the hearing – also noting this public hearing is for taking public comment only. “No decisions will be made that night, we are only taking public input at that time.”

He said once that hearing is held, the public’s comments will be weighed. Also to be weighed will be opinion now being offered by the county’s consultants which were recently hired to help with the updating of the comprehensive plan. That firm was also asked to review the proposed zoning regulations and provide input. Obermier said the county has received some of that input and will be considering that as well.

At a later date, the commissioners will set agenda items to further consider the regulations and eventually make a decision for moving forward with zoning regulations for solar projects.
