Press Release: From Four Corners Health Department
May is Arthritis Awareness Month. Arthritis is a disease. It is common and can harm the body’s joints. The condition can cause pain, swelling, stiffness, a reduced range of motion, and sensitivity to touch.
There are many ways to try to relieve arthritis symptoms. These can include medicine, physical therapy, surgery, and more. Something else that might help is to take a class, like Living Well offered by Four Corners. Living Well is a self-management workshop that helps you take control of your health by using small steps toward positive changes and healthier living. The workshop, led by trained leaders, uses a Chronic Disease Self-Management Program from Stanford University.
Living well workshops are fun and interactive, not just lectures. Leaders and participants share their experiences and provide support to each other!
A Living Well with Chronic Pain class finished on April 11th. Topics covered included:
- action plans
- problem-solving
- decision making
- healthy eating
- exercise
- communication skills
- sleep
- relaxation
- medication usage
- time management
- and more!
The class bonded throughout the 6-week workshop, sharing their experiences and learning together. A new Living Well class is being planned and will be posted on the Four Corners website when ready.
