YORK COUNTY – The previously scheduled public hearing regarding solar project zoning regulations in York County, set for Monday, April 15, has been canceled.
The public hearing date had been formally published and scheduled, as the York County Commissioners were to hear public testimony regarding proposed regulations pertaining to solar projects in York County.
However, the untimely and unexpected death of York County Commissioner Stan Boehr has created a postponement.
Boehr passed away Tuesday, April 9, and his memorial service is scheduled for April 15.
Initially, the county commissioners had indicated they would be moving forward with the public hearing; however, upon the announcement Boehr’s memorial service would be held that same day, they have decided to postpone the public hearing.
“Out of respect for Stan Boehr’s family, we will be indefinitely postponing the public hearing,” said York County Commissioner Chairman Randy Obermier and York County Commissioner Vice-Chairman Daniel Grotz on Thursday afternoon, April 11.
“The zoning regulation process will continue, but due to Commissioner Boehr’s memorial service happening that same day, we find it is best to postpone those proceedings out of respect for his family,” Obermier and Grotz said.
The York County Commissioners will be meeting in regular session, Tuesday, April 16. During that time, Obermier and Grotz said an agenda item has been added for the commissioners’ meeting, in order for the board to discuss the process of moving forward.
“We feel it is the best thing to postpone the public hearing at this time,” Obermier and Grotz said, “and we will be discussing not only the process of how we move forward with the solar project zoning but also outlining the process of filling Commissioner Boehr’s vacated seat.”
They said the public hearing has been postponed “indefinitely,” but the Tuesday conversation will help the board formulate a path moving forward on this very important issue.
