Heartland Huskie Basketball Teams Battle Giltner Hornets & Riverside Chargers Friday and Saturday

The Heartland Huskie girls and boys’ teams traveled to Giltner on Friday night and came home with a couple of wins. The girls beat the Hornets 35-21, and the boys defeated Giltner 47-40. On Saturday, they hosted the Riverside Chargers, and the girls lost a close one, 41-45. The boys stayed ahead of the Riverside Chargers the entire game with their biggest lead of 20 points in the third quarter. The final score was Heartland 68 and Riverside 52. Here’s a recap and stats from each of their games from Friday and Saturday.

Heartland GIRLS Stats BB vs. Giltner

Points by quarters:

The Heartland Huskie girls had a slow start offensively in the first half but came out on fire in the second half. They scored 19 points and held Giltner to only two points. They had numerous steals that led to layups and the Hornets were called for traveling several times. The Lady Huskies took advantage of Giltner’s mistakes and got into a rhythm with multiple players scoring for the Huskies.

Heartland Huskie BOYS Stats vs. Giltner

Points by quarters:

The Huskie boys led the entire game, but the Hornets got within a couple of points at the end of the third quarter. Hendric Switzer was the leading scorer for the Huskies with 18 points. The Huskies came away with their much-needed first win of the season and are 1-3.

Individual scoring: Hendric Switzer – 18, Carter Siebert – 9, Thane Wetjen – 8, Luis Alvarez – 6, Sam Quiring – 2, Nick Thieszen – 1.

Heartland Huskie GIRLS BB Stats vs. Riverside

Points by quarters:

The Heartland Huskie girls were behind most of the game and had nine turnovers in the first half that hindered their offense. Their hot shooting and pressure defense got them back in the game in the fourth quarter. With 5.8 seconds to go, Hayden Mierau sunk a 3-pointer making the score 41-44 giving the Huskies a chance but they weren’t able to score in the remaining seconds. They were led in scoring by Mia Hiebner with 11 points.

The Lady Huskies are now 2-3 for the year and will face Deshler away on Tuesday, Dec.11th.

Heartland Huskie BOYS BB Stats vs. Riverside

Points by quarters:

The Heartland Huskie boys dominated the game against the Riverside Chargers with an offense that was clicking. Hendric Switzer got hot leading the team with 22 points, making three 3-pointers. The Huskies used their height advantage and were able to block several shots against Riverside.

With 2:58 to go in the third quarter, the Huskies were ahead 53-23, and it looked like they might blow out the Chargers, but the Huskies had a scoring drought at the beginning of the fourth quarter allowing the Chargers to within 13 points. It was broken by Hudson Regier with a two-point play and followed up by a three-pointer by Luis Alvarez, making the score 58-43. The Huskies put on a strong performance winning 68-52 making their record 2-3 for the year. They will travel to Deshler on Tuesday, Dec. 12th for their next game.
