Heartland sophomore Mia Hiebner had a strong performance at the Class C Girls State Golf Meet at Lake Maloney Golf Course in North Platte this week. She tied for 4th with a two-day total of 161 (84-77).
“It was definitely exciting playing this week, but I was not expecting it at all,” said Hiebner about her top finish. This was the first time she had broken 80 in competitive play, so she was really pleased about her Tuesday score of 77.
After Monday’s round, she was tied for 8th place with her score of 84 (40-44), but on Tuesday, she broke 80, carding two great rounds of 39-38. She tied with KayLynn Jorgensen from Minden, who also had a two-day score of 161.
“The first day was super nice weather-wise, but the wind kicked up on Tuesday, making it an issue since there aren’t many trees on this course. The hardest part about this course was the greens, with each one having different speeds,” said Hiebner. She played a practice round at Lake Maloney on Sunday prior to the meet and also played the course once this summer, she said.
Last year, as a freshman, Hiebner competed at the State Meet at the Elks Country Club in Columbus. She tied for 13th place with a two-day score of 92 – 88.
There were 15 schools represented at the State meet, with over 90 golfers teeing off on Monday, October 9, and Tuesday, October 10.
