The Lady Huskies didn’t have the kind of night they would have liked for Homecoming Tuesday, October 10, on their home court. They got behind early in their 0-3 (20-25, 7-25, 17-25) loss to the David City Scouts and couldn’t recover.
In their first set, they found themselves in a big hole down 1-11 but managed to crawl back in the set behind a few kills from Jamisen Klein and Hayden Mierau. They came close, making it 13-18, when Mierau attacked with a kill that found the corner of the court. With some more good offense and serving, the Huskies managed to hit 20 but were overpowered by the Scouts, losing 20-25.
The second set was more of the same when they were down 1-10 but couldn’t find any offense to make a comeback, losing badly 7-25.
KatrinaMarie Epp gave the Huskies a spark with an opening ace serve, and the Huskies had their first lead of the match at 1-0. They traded the lead back and forth with the Scouts with the help of kills by Allie Boehr, Isabel Johnson’s serves, and a great block by Klein and Epp. It wasn’t enough, and they lost the set 17-25.
Boehr led the team with five kills, Goertzen and Mierau had four, and Klein had three.
Next week begins the Southern Nebraska Conference. Heartland will play on Monday, October 16, at 5:30 p.m. against Sandy Creek at Superior. Here is the link to the brackets.
