Coming This Summer…

Introducing a new opportunity for youth in York County! Nebraska Extension in York County is teaming up with York Parks and Rec to offer a variety of new summer programs. The primary goals of the program are to provide 4-H youth development opportunities for youth, educational resources to volunteers, and to spark an interest in 4-H programs.  The program reaches out to youth where they live and interact to engage them in life skill development through the framework of 4-H and positive youth development. These lessons are all highly engaging and tie directly to 4-H curriculum and projects that can be exhibited at the fair.

Archery Camp

Join YPR and the 4-H Extension office as we team up for a fun-filled week of learning all about archery! We will start with the basics and introduce safety topics before participants get to shoot. Bows and arrows will be provided, but you are welcome to bring your own if you have it. See you all out on the range!

When:  June 12 – 15
Time:  10:30am-12:00pm
Ages:  8-13 years old
Where:  York County Fairgrounds
Fee:  $10
Late Fee:  $5.00 after assigned registration deadline

A Day at the Fair

Experience a day in the life of a 4-H member!  Come on out to the York County Fair on August 3rd. See what it takes to show at the fair while watching the sheep and goat show, chat with various animal exhibitors and make your own exhibit in the Home Ec building. Finish the day with fair food at the 4-H Food Stand!

When:  August 3
Time:  10:30am-12:30pm
Who:  K-5
Where:  York County Fairgrounds
Fee:  $5
Registration Deadline: July 31

We are also offering two opportunities for youth to show their summer creations at county fair.

Artistic Me!

July 24-27

Let your artistic juices flow!  Become an artist using clay, markers, foam, stickers, paint, crayons, cardboard and much more! Then, once we’ve created our master pieces, the Parks and Recreation will have a spot saved at the fair to have your work on display!  Come and show off your artwork at the County Fair!

Baker’s Dozen

July 31 – August 3

There are hundreds of things to bake so team up with YPR and let’s hit the kitchen!  We will be baking cookies, cakes, cupcakes, pudding, cake-pops, and anything else that can be baked! Not to mention the fun we’ll have making a mess in the kitchen! When we’re all finished, if you like what we made, you can take it to the fair afterwards and compete for Parks and Recreation in the 4-H baking competition!

We hope to you around this summer one or more of these programs. We are looking forward to an active summer of learning! For more information about the Parks & Rec programs, contact the Community Center at 363-2630 or email:  cfolts@cityofyork.net or jepley@cityofyork.net for more information about each program.
