Bethesda Mennonite Church has welcomed a new pastor and his family into their congregation. Seth Miller, a recent seminary graduate, is now serving as the Pastor of Preaching and Outreach. Making the move to Henderson with him was his wife Kristie and 9-month-old daughter Abigail.
Seth grew up in Sarasota, Florida, while Kristie lived over 1,000 miles north in Pennsylvania. Although they may have been separated by distance, they shared the commonality of being raised in Mennonite churches. This led to their converging at Eastern Mennonite University during their undergraduate studies. There Seth earned a History degree with a minor in Political Science while also obtaining an education licensure. Kristie graduated with a Liberal Arts degree and a licensure for K-12 Special Education. After marrying, they ventured to Pennsylvania where they both worked as teachers. Five years later, the decision was made for Seth to return to school to attend seminary.
“Kristie says she always knew I would go to seminary,” commented Seth. Equating the calling to trying to keep a beach ball under water that keeps popping back up, he spent three years in seminary at Eastern Mennonite Seminary. This past spring he graduated with a Masters of Divinity. Through entering the search process that the denomination has devised, he visited Bethesda as a candidate, ultimately leading to his first pastoral placement.
After being in Henderson for about a month, they said they have been warmly welcomed. Seth is looking forward to getting to know the people in his congregation, building relationships, and being in the community. As for Kristie, she has made the switch from a teaching career to being a stay-at-home mom.
If you see Pastor Seth and his family around town, please welcome them!
