FullSizeRenderKyra Dick was nominated as the Student of the Month by Heartland Principal Tim Carr. “Kyra has done a phenomenal job as a tour guide when new students arrive to school.” Kyra is a freshman and is a natural for introducing new students with her infectious smile and warm personality. She knows a little bit of what it feels like to enter a new school since she moved back to Henderson just last year after living in Henderson, Nevada.

“It was kind of funny when people in Henderson, Nevada would ask where we were moving and I would say to Henderson!” She said her transition to Heartland wasn’t too difficult since she already knew the kids in her class from when she attended elementary school here as well as visiting her grandparents in Henderson a few times year.

Kyra really has enjoyed the benefits of attending a smaller school especially the smaller class size and personal attention she receives from her teachers. “I like all my classes, but I especially like Mrs. Mazour’s history class,” said Kyra. She also loves to draw and is a member of the Art Club where she has helped with the restoration of the downtown mural on the exterior of the Mainstay building.

Her passion in sports is volleyball and hopes to be able to play as a middle hitter on the college level some day. She fondly remembers that she started playing volleyball when she first lived in Henderson and went to Deb Mierau’s Daycare. “While at Deb’s, I remember playing volleyball in the front yard, so I think that’s what got me started. When we moved, volleyball was something I could carry with me from Henderson,” said Kyra.

Other extracurricular activities include FFA, chorus, and track for Kyra. But like many athletes she experienced a surprise this fall when she was inadvertently hit in the head by a volleyball and suffered a concussion. “Mr. Carr was so supportive and flexible with my schedule during my recovery from the concussion,” said Kyra.

Kyra lives in Henderson with her mother Tennille and brother Keshawn, a Heartland senior. Heartland is fortunate to have someone like Kyra move back home and be such a good representative for the school and community. Congratulations Kyra for being chosen as this month’s Heartland Beat Student of the Month!
