Junior Eve Vanderneck has been nominated as the Heartland Beat Student of the Month by Heartland English teacher Sarah Ostmeyer. “Eve is involved in multiple activities while maintaining a high GPA in class. She demonstrates leadership qualities and takes a stand for her peers,†said Ostmeyer.
Vanderneck’s positive attitude is very evident when you talk to her about how her junior year is going. “I love all my classes and teachers this year, and I’ve really enjoyed participating in all the extra-curricular activities,†said Vanderneck. Although her interests are wide ranging from art to chemistry, she admits that she is an avid reader and English is probably her favorite subject. She loves to talk about the books she is reading and her favorite this year so far is “The Book Thief†by Markus Zusak.
Being involved in team sports is also very important to Vanderneck. She is a three sport athlete who has competed in volleyball, basketball, and track at Heartland. She credits all of her “amazing coaches†for helping her increase her skill level during her high school career. This past summer she was fortunate to get a call to tryout for one of the Nebraska Elite Volleyball teams in Omaha.
“I got the opportunity to try out because the NE Elite KO team lost their middle to an injury. I made the team and was able to travel with them midway through the summer playing up a level with the 17 year-olds,†said Vanderneck. She attributes her early progress in volleyball this season to the coaching and playing experience she gained competing against teams from all over the country.
“Heartland has been a good place for me to be in high school. It has provided me with great role models, peers, and the opportunity to be a part of a team,†said Vanderneck. As an upperclassman, she has developed a healthy case of “Huskie Pride†that drives her to want to be successful for her team and school.
“She is always positive and working hard, encouraging her classmates and teammates along the way,†said Ostmeyer. Congratulations to Eve Vanderneck for being chosen as this month’s Heartland Beat Student of the Month!
