photoSophomore Bailey Ulmer has been nominated as the September Heartland Beat Student of the Month. “I nominated Bailey because she is always willing to help out wherever needed,” said Heartland FFA advisor Stephanie Miller. Ulmer has taken on a leadership role in FFA this year serving as secretary as well as assisting with many FFA projects.

She especially has enjoyed her woodworking projects in FFA and entered an adirondack chair in both the York County Fair and Nebraska State Fair where she received blue ribbons for her work. Besides learning about woodworking, she currently is taking a welding class taught by Mrs. Miller where she will eventually work on a welding project to be entered in the 2015 fairs.

As an active and involved FFA member and officer, she has helped with the York County Relay for Life, Henderson Community Days, Bradshaw Tractor Pull concession stand, Henderson Farmer’s Market meal, and the Heartland concession stand. “She really does care about the activities that she is involved in and plays honest and fair in the game of life,” said Miller.

Besides FFA, Ulmer is on the Heartland Girl’s Golf Team and a member of the choir and band. Her favorite subject this year is Spanish, but her real love is for animals. Growing up in the country southeast of Henderson with her parents Scott and Michele, she has enjoyed raising goats, cattle, and several dogs and cats.

Congratulations to Bailey for representing Heartland so well and being nominated as the Heartland Beat Student of the Month!
