Common Cause Nebraska is pleased to announce the “By the People” Awards, a ceremony to honor Nebraskans who did the hard work of engaging with their community and their government. This year’s recipients are fantastic examples of what can be accomplished when real people strive to make a difference.
Adam Morfeld & Nebraskans for Civic Reform, for their continued dedication to guaranteeing voting rights for all
Jane Kleeb & BOLD Nebraska, for increasing civic engagement and creating a movement that bridges party lines
STANCE, an organization of school superintendents, who created a counter-point to public schools hiring lobbyists
Professor John Bender & the UNL Faculty Senate, for speaking out about transparency within the University
Kevin O’Hanlon, former reporter at the Lincoln Journal Star, for years of diligent reporting on campaign finance reform and government ethics
Senators Danielle Conrad and Jeremy Nordquist, & the Minimum Wage Movement, for organizing a citizen’s movement and making the best of a broken petition process
The Awards will be held on September 25, 2014, from 6:00-8:00 pm at Chez Hay in downtown Lincoln. Following the award ceremony, Jane Kleeb will speak on the topic of organizing in Nebraska and what it takes to rally people around political work.
