The American Cancer Society Relay for Life event – York County takes place THIS WEEK! The multi-faceted event is held at the York County Fairgrounds on Saturday, June 7, from 7:00 p.m. until Midnight.

TeamHenderson has had a successful fundraising campaign again this year and appreciate all of those who have made a contribution – either by making a cash donation, purchasing a luminary in honor or in memory of a loved one, or by donating homemade cinnamon rolls for our Saturday evening fundraiser. If any community member has been missed in the solicitation effort and would still be interested in contributing, donations may be left at the Mainstay Communications office at 1000 North Main Street through Friday.

Everyone is welcome to attend the Relay for Life event! Bring your own lawn chair and join us (tentatively planning to be set up across from the 4-H building) for the evening. Cancer survivors will receive free token when they check-in. These tokens can be used to ‘purchase’ food items from the various teams. There will be sandwiches and other meal options as well as many snack foods and sweets. All who attend the relay are encouraged to purchase their evening meal and snacks at the relay as well.

The official start time for the event is 6:00 p.m. when all teams should have their food items ready to purchase. The survivor lap around the walking track will begin at 7:00 p.m. Anyone who has ever had a cancer diagnosis is considered a survivor – whether in treatment, in remission, or considered cured. Throughout the rest of the evening there will be music played by DJ Mark Jensen, several fun competitions between teams and free time for visiting, walking, eating, and viewing the luminaries at dusk. The memorial slide show will be presented at 10:00 p.m. in the mercantile building. The slide show is made up of hundreds of images of individuals who have lost their battles with cancer. The event closing ceremony will take place at midnight.
