1st Annual Nebraska Ag Water Management Network (NAWMN) Conference
Area irrigators, this is my final reminder about our Irrigation Conference planned for this Friday. I hope you’ll plan to attend this to be held at the Auditorium in York from 9:25 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. (Registration begins at 9:00 a.m.). The program will feature research updates by Dr. Suat Irmak, an innovation sharing time to share your innovative ways to read and install/pull sensors, an open discussion, NRD update from Rod DeBuhr (UBBNRD), and a keynote by Dr. Ronnie Green (NU Vice President and IANR Vice Chancellor).

Center Pivot Irrigation Management Short Course
Next week on Tuesday, February 11, you have another opportunity to attend a center pivot irrigation management short course. It will be held at the Clay County Fairgrounds in Clay Center. Registration will begin at 9:00 a.m. with the program from 9:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. There is a packed agenda with topics lasting 20 minutes each.

The topics include: performance of a center pivot, soil water management, matching sprinklers to soils, sprinkler package selection, minimizing pumping costs, crop water use, water balance/consumptive use/limited irrigation, center pivot technology/variable rate irrigation, center pivot management, and updates from both the Upper Big Blue NRD and Little Blue NRD.

There is no charge as this meeting is sponsored by all four major pivot companies (T-L Irrigation, Reinke, Valley, Lindsay) in addition to the Environmental Trust and UNL Extension. Please RSVP to the Clay County Extension Office by Feb. 7 for a meal count at (402) 762-3644 or email Jenny Rees at: jrees2@unl.edu.

Again this year, beginning Feb. 11, we will be hosting a series of Master Gardner connect training sessions at our office beginning at 6:30 p.m. each Tuesday evening. We are inviting anyone that would like to attend the sessions to be able to. Topics this season include:
February 11 – Integrated Pest Management Options in Landscapes
February 18 –Disease Identification of Herbaceous Landscape Plants
February 25 – Turfgrass Care and Management
March 4 – Pollinators in the Landscape and “Pollinator Friendly” Plant Material
March 11 – Plant Propagation Concepts and Tomato Grafting
March 25 – Landscape Weed Identification and Herbaceous Update

Private Pesticide Training
Last night I conducted my fourth Private Pesticide Education Program and have my final one for the season planned for March 13 at 1:30 p.m. in the 4-H Building. Check your card to see if you need this certification this year. If you do, I hope you can attend the March meeting, if not, check out the http://pested.unl.edu/ or contact our office for other sessions planned for our area. You can also stop by our office to pick up a copy of the home study manual or order the online version from the PestEd website. Give me a call or email me if you have additional questions.
