Cropping Update
It was really nice to finally get some of that needed rain and cooler temperatures, just too bad it did not come a little earlier, but we’ll take it. It will help the later maturing rainfed soybeans and corn and it sure helped settle the dust as producer begin harvesting soybeans.  I want to remind soybean growers to be as timely as possible harvesting those soybeans so they don’t get too dry. I know it’s always tough since they often dry down very rapidly.
Speaking of harvest, have you calibrated your yield monitor yet? To get good data, you need to have it calibrated accurately. Check out our latest issue of CropWatch to get this done before you get into full swing. That link is: http://cropwatch.unl.edu/.
Hunter Education Classes Planned
Just a reminder, if you have not signed up for the Hunter Education class that Dan Barrett is conducting, now is the time to do so. He will be conducting these classes in the 4-H Building here in York. The classes will be held from 7:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. on September 23, 24, 26, and 27.

Lawn and Garden
How’s your lawn and garden doing? It’s been a long hot few weeks. I’ve been receiving a few calls about lawns that have spots showing up as a result of the stress we’ve been experiencing because of the high temperatures and dry conditions. This condition is known as summer patch or frog eye. If you have considerable damage as a result of this disease, now would be a good time to aerate and over seed with new improved turf cultivars. Information about this disease can be found on our turf website (http://turf.unl.edu/) and in the following publication: http://www.ianrpubs.unl.edu/live/g1913/build/g1913.pdf. Check out all the resources at our turf webpage.
Husker Harvest Days
Did you have an opportunity to stop by the IANR booth this past week at Husker Harvest Days? I had a great time visiting with the many producers and Ag Instructors that stopped by to visit with us about the ETgages and Watermark Sensors and check out all the displays that centered around water this year!
