Curt Friesen, a fourth generation farmer in Hamilton County, will run for the State Legislature next year in District 34 which includes all of Hamilton, Merrick, and Nance Counties and a portion of Hall County including some of Grand Island. The seat is currently held by State Senator Annette Dubas of Fullerton who cannot seek re-election due to term limits.
“I am running for the Legislature to work with others to help create opportunity for small businesses and industry to create jobs in our rural communities, lower our property taxes, strengthen agriculture, invest in our schools, and maintain a way of life we can be proud of” said Friesen, age 58.
“As a father and grandfather, I value strengthening Nebraska’s ‘good life’ for our children and grandchildren,†continued Friesen. “If our children are going to stay in or return to Nebraska we must make sure that good paying jobs – jobs that allow a good standard of living – are available for them.”
Curt Friesen is currently serving as President of Hamilton County Corn Growers, Vice Chair of the Nebraska Corn Board, Vice Chair of the National Corn Growers Public policy action team, and is a member of the Hamilton County Farm Bureau. He previously served on the board of the Upper Big Blue Natural Resources District including as Board Chairman.
Friesen is a past member of Congressman Tom Osborne’s Ag Advisory Committee, State Senator Elaine Stuhr’s Advisory Committee, the Governor’s Water Policy Task Force, Hamilton County Groundwater Conservation District Board, Blue River Association of Groundwater Districts Board, and was a Volunteer Firefighter with Henderson Fire & Rescue from 1991-2008. He is a graduate of Southeast Community College in Milford and is a graduate of Lead XXVII.
Curt and Nancy Friesen have been married 38 years and have four children and five grandchildren.
