With the end of the school year, the Henderson Chamber of Commerce is busy planning all of the events that will be happening in Henderson this summer. There is a great schedule of events this year to keep children, youth, and adults busy with fun community activities.
The first event to kickoff the summer is the Henderson Community Foundation Golf Tournament on Saturday, June 1, at Galaway Creek Golf Course beginning at 8:00 a.m. This event is a fundraiser for the Henderson Community Foundation Scholarship Endowment Fund, which presents at least one scholarship each year to a Heartland Community Schools graduate who shows interest in returning to the communities of Henderson and Bradshaw later in life. Registration will be taken until the shotgun start, so it is never too late to sign up.
June also marks the start of the 2013 Henderson Farmers Market season, which takes place on Tuesday evenings from 5:00-7:00 p.m. in the downtown park. With a variety of vendors selling produce, jellies, jams, and baked goods, there is something for everyone at this weekly event beginning June 4 and continuing until August 13.  Supper will also be served each week by different groups wanting to raise money, which another great way to support local organizations.  You can even “Like†Henderson NE Farmers Market on Facebook to receive updates about what will be sold at the Farmers Market each week.
On June 15, you can participate in the Community Wide Garage Sales by selling your treasures or going to the 30+ garage sales in town that day. People come to the community from far and wide for this event every year.  Event information including registration information is available online at cityofhenderson.org under Annual Events or stop by city hall for a registration packet, or you may contact Ruth Peters (402) 723-4253.
We will be cruising at Henderson Community Days on July 12, 13, and 14. This year’s line up of events will keep you busy both days with a Photo Scavenger Hunt, Chamber BBQ, concert by Paul Siebert, Family Pool Party, and Dodgeball Tournament on Friday evening. Saturday, the fun starts with a Pancake Feed at Heritage Park, the 5K and 10K Jr. Auxiliary Jaunt, Main Street Parade, Men’s Alumni Basketball Tournament, Inflatables, Car Show, and Fireworks Show.
We will round out the summer events with Henderson Community Night at a Lincoln Saltdogs Game on Sunday, August 18, at Haymarket Park in the afternoon. Tickets will be available through the Chamber at a reduced rate starting July 1.
With so many great activities happening this summer, be sure to mark your calendar with each date listed above and contact the Chamber for more information about any of these great events by calling (402) 723-4228 or emailing hchamber@mainstaycomm.net.  You can always find more information about summer events at www.HendersonNE.com.
