“It’s amazing to have two students earn first place at the FBLA National Leadership Conference!†said Heartland FBLA sponsor Kristy Most. It’s also pretty amazing that they happen to be sisters Ashley and Kaitlyn Quiring, daughters of Lonnie and Lisa Quiring.
They were recently honored for their respective accomplishments at the Nebraska Department of Education’s Commissioner’s Recognition for Student Excellence in Career Education. “It was awesome to get to meet Nebraska Governor Dave Heineman and have tea at the Governor’s mansion†said Ashley. Ashley, a Heartland senior, is no stranger to winning accounting competitions on the state and national level, but it was new for Kaitlyn who is a sophomore.
“I was really surprised that I won the keyboarding competition,†said Kaitlyn. Ashley was quick to add that Kaitlyn “one-upped†her because she had not done nearly that well in keyboarding when she was that age. “My sister definitely encouraged me to join FBLA, and after I saw how she got to travel, it was easy to choose FBLA,†said Kaitlyn.
Ashley has qualified for nationals since her freshman year and has traveled to Nashville, Orlando, and last summer they both went to San Antonio. They are in the early stages of practicing for this year’s state competition that will be held in early spring. Both sisters are really hopeful about making it to this year’s nationals that will be held in Anaheim.
They are quick to credit their sponsor Mrs. Most for the success they have had. “She has been a huge encouragement and works really hard getting us ready for these competitions,†said Ashley and Kaitlyn. Ashley plans on majoring in accounting in college and is undecided about where she will attend yet. Kaitlyn is also interested in majoring in business when she is ready for college.
“Ashley and Kaitlyn are dedicated students, and it was great to see how excited the entire Nebraska delegation was that the Quiring sisters were national champions!†said Most. Congratulations to both Ashley and Kaitlyn for being awarded the HeartlandBeat Student of the Month!
