The Henderson Mennonite Brethren Church will be holding its annual Harvest Missions Festival on Sunday, November 18. Special guest speaker for the day is Rev. Garvie Schmidt, former Henderson MB pastor (1987-1996) and current Planned Giving Advisor for the MB Foundation in Hillsboro, KS.
Sunday morning worship service will begin at 10:30 a.m. when Rev. Schmidt will preach on “Road Blocks to Open Handed Living†based on 2 Corinthians 9:6-11. He will speak about how following Jesus calls us to a new way of living: living with open hands instead of tight fists in regards to our resources.
Following the 5 p.m. banquet, Rev. Schmidt will preach on “Planning for a Sure Investment†based on 2 Peter 3:10-11, pointing out that, in light of the fact that all will deteriorate here on earth, we are called to be a holy people set apart to live life differently than the rest of the world.
Garvie Schmidt has been a part of the MB Foundation Team since November of 2011. He received his BA from Tabor College and a M. Div. degree from the MB Biblical Seminary in Fresno, CA. Garvie and his wife Diane have been married 34 years and have two grown children, Nathan of Hutchinson, KS, and Heidi, a former Grace Children’s Home worker currently serving in Piura, Peru with MB Missions.
