Senior Daniel Quiring has been named the September HeartlandBeat.com Student of the Month. “Daniel is a student who is always willing to do things that go above and beyond expectations. I appreciate the example he is to other students and how well he represents our school whether he is announcing for HeartlandBeat, cheering in the student section or on a field trip,†said Heartland principal Tim Carr.
Quiring has been very active and involved as a student at Heartland. He has been on the football and track teams all four years and lettered in both sports. “I really think our football team has a higher skill level than last year and our experience should help us win more games this year,†said Quiring.
Besides sports, Quiring has been very involved in music and drama at Heartland. He plays the trombone in the band and is a member of the choir participating in many solos for the annual district music contest. He has had lead parts in both the school musical and spring plays during his high school career.
He has served for three years as an officer in FFA and is the treasurer this year. Last week with other FFA members he helped answer the call from the Heritage Committee to do some apple picking for the cider press at Heritage Day. He also was chosen to participate in an anti-bullying program conducted the first week of school in Milligan where he helped facilitate small groups of students in interactions about this topic.
Even though it is early in his senior year, Quiring has been busy researching his college options. Right now he is seriously considering Bethel, Hesston and Tabor colleges in Kansas. “I think going into secondary education would be a good fit with my strengths in speaking and working with people,†said Quiring.
In the meantime he is enjoying his senior year even though there seems to be more homework! His parents, Dot Quiring and Marvin Quiring, should be proud of his accomplishments.
“Daniel is a great role model,†said Carr and we congratulate him for being nominated as our September HeartlandBeat.com Student of the Month!
