On Saturday, September 8, the Heartland Band won the highest honor at the Yorkfest Parade as they received first place in Class C and also received the traveling Governor’s Trophy for the best band in the parade overall.
This year the band is directed by Mr. Royce Schweitzer along with Drum Majors Ashton Kroeker and Emily Ott. Â Emily noted that she was really proud of the band’s hard work to prepare for the contest because Yorkfest occurred a week earlier than usual this year. Â The band, however, was still able to squeeze in some great practices on Henderson’s Main Street to prepare for the competition. Â On Saturday the band looked confident and well-rehearsed as they took home the big win.
The band will be in competition again at Harvest of Harmony in Grand Island on Saturday, October 6.
